The significance of the Underground Railroad in upstate New York will be evident after touring these unique attractions in the Syracuse area.  Beginning with the Underground Railroad display at the Onondaga Historical Association, and then - stop on the Railroad - the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center in Fayetteville.  Take a few moments to visit the Jerry Rescue Memorial on Clinton Square and view the balcony where Charles Dickens made his speech in favor of returning all Freedom Seekers to their original owners.  Also included is a short drive to the Abolitionist Hall of Fame in Peterboro along with the Gerrit Smith Historic Site.  Smith was an outspoken advocate for abolishing slavery and dedicated years and many dollars to his cause. Return to Syracuse via the quaint village of Cazenovia for a visit to the lakeside home of village founder John Lincklaen, "Lorenzo".
